Who are the good therapists of yesterday and today?

Interacting in recent years with therapists, managers and teachers from training institutions in different countries, I am increasingly convinced that the best therapists of all time are the few who have "the gift".

Few of the lucky ones have the will to undertake studies seriously, and some of them find good vocational schools.

These undertake a way of sacrifice both in terms of teaching commitment as a good basic vocational training lasts between 1000 and 1500 hours, during which time they regularly follow many specialized refresher courses supported by passion and will .

Those who have just seriously embarked on this career immediately begin to confront this reality, while those who practice this profession seriously can for years confirm and remember with a smile between themselves and if the many hours of study spent on anatomy, traumatology and others. , and how many weekends spent attending unmissable seminars.

And what about the financial commitment?

Good schools do not cost little, especially those that issue diplomas and certifications of study hours recognized nationally, schools that offer not only qualified teachers but also those capable of transmitting the love for the profession.

Unfortunately, there are also mediocre schools that are just as expensive but inefficient with poor programs and total disorganization as regards a non-existent relationship between teachers and subjects.

In almost all countries, as for all professions, even that of the therapist is subject to obtaining permits, operating licenses, and annual renewals by the Canton or region, and not least by the state, and the various professional associations.

Ladies and gentlemen "patients or clients"

when you literally put yourself in the hands of a real therapist, don't judge him by the diplomas, certificates, affiliation to associations with a high-sounding name, and operating permits.

You can understand the skill, ability, and professionalism of your therapist from 3 things.

1. how he will welcome you and how he will dismiss you with humanity and professionalism from the study of massages and therapies

2. from the result that you will obtain immediately or within a few sessions but also from the courage of the therapist to tell you without fear of not being able to treat your case as it is not his competence, therefore addressing you to the doctor, or to another figure social health.

3. You will also understand the professionalism of the therapist if he scrupulously applies the regulations of the code of professional ethics that I personally wrote and published in 1997 prior to the opening of the first school for medical masseurs in the Canton Ticino in Switzerland.

And I take this opportunity to re-propose to all therapists and directors of training institutions, and to the patients / clients the aforementioned document.

• We massage therapists have the responsibility to act in the interest of the patient. As members of this profession, we recognize the greatest degree of personal and professional integrity without which this mission cannot be accomplished.

• As massage technicians, we are committed to offering personified care and applying techniques studied in a clean and comfortable environment, thus ensuring the well-being of the patient. Consequently, within this profession these rules must be respected:

• Maintain a presentation and professional behavior, maintaining good hygiene and dressing appropriately during work.

• Respect all patients, regardless of their age, sex, race, origin, social status and public opinion, health status and professional habits.

• Respect the patient by being present, listening and respecting professional secrecy.

• Do not disclose information concerning the customer without his agreement.

• Offer a healthy, comfortable picture and use quality products.

• Do not practice but the methods for which you are qualified and of which you are physically and emotionally capable. Direct the patient to the qualified specialist when the case of the patient in question is not his or her responsibility.

• Adapt the massage to the individual needs of each patient.

• Ask for the right price for your services.

• Keep your patient records up to date, consulting them before each treatment.

• Provide the patient with information to improve his health (books, exercises, etc.).

• Post your payment terms clearly.

• Keep informed about techniques, reading and receiving information regularly, participate in specialization courses, internships, professional retraining seminars, at least once a year

• Being a member of at least one professional association.

• Make patients aware of the massage and its benefits through presentations, seminars or articles.

Chi sono i bravi terapisti di ieri e di oggi

lavora attualmente in Svizzera a Pontresina nel Canton Grigioni

Interagendo negli ultimi anni con i terapisti, i responsabili ed i docenti degli enti di formazione di differenti paesi sono sempre più convinto che i migliori terapisti di sempre sono quei pochi che hanno "il dono".

Pochi di questi fortunati hanno la volontà di intraprendere seriamente gli studi ,,, ed alcuni di loro trovano le buone scuole professionali.

Questi intraprendono una via di sacrifici sia in senso dell'impegno didattico in quanto una buona formazione professionale basica dura tra le 1000, e le 1500 ore alle quali, nell'arco del tempo seguono regolarmente tanti corsi di aggiornamento specialistico sorretti dalla passione e dalla volontà.

Chi ha appena seriamente intrapreso questa carriera inizia da subito a confrontarsi con questa realtà, mentre chi pratica seriamente questa professione da anni può confermare e ricordare sorridendo tra se e se le molte ore di studio passate sui libri di anatomia, traumatologia ed altri ancora ,,, e quanti fine settimana trascorsi a partecipare ad imperdibili seminari.

E che dire del impegno finanziario?

Buone scuole non costano poco specie quelle che rilasciano diplomi e certificazioni delle ore di studio riconosciuti a livello nazionale, scuole che propongo docenti non solo qualificati ma anche in grado di trasmettere l'amore per la professione.

Purtroppo ci sono anche scuole mediocri altrettanto costose ma poco efficienti con programmi miseri e disorganizzazione totale per quello che riguarda un inesistente rapporto docenti/materie.

Vogliamo anche parlare dei contributi?

In quasi tutti i paesi, come per tutte le professioni, anche quella del terapista é soggetta all'ottenimento di permessi, patenti di esercizio, e rinnovi annuali da parte del Cantone o regione che sia, e non per ultimi dallo stato, e le varie associazioni professionali.

Signore, e Signori "pazienti o clienti"

quando vi mettete letteralmente nelle mani di un vero terapista, non giudicatelo dai diplomi, attestati, affiliazione ad associazioni dal nome altisonante, e permessi di esercizio.

Potrete capire la bravura, la capacità, e la professionalità del vostro terapista da 3 cose.

1. da come vi accoglierà e da come vi congederà con umanità e professionalità dallo studio di massaggi, e terapie

2. dal risultato che otterrete nell'immediato o nel giro di poche sedute ma anche dal coraggio da parte del terapista nel dirvi senza paura di non poter trattare il vostro caso in quanto non sua competenza indirizzandovi quindi dal medico, o da un'altra figura sociosanitaria.

3. capirete anche la professionalità del terapista se questi applica con scrupolo le normative del codice di etica professionale che ho personalmente scritto e pubblicato nel 1997 antecedentemente all'apertura della prima scuola per massaggiatori medici del Canton Ticino in Svizzera.

E colgo qui l'occasione per riproporre a tutti sia terapisti e direttori degli enti di formazione, che ai pazienti/clienti il sopraccitato documento.

• Noi massaggiatori abbiamo la responsabilità di agire nell‘interesse del paziente. Come membri di questa professione, noi riconosciamo il più grande grado di integrità personale e professionale senza il quale questa missione non può essere compiuta. 


• In qualità di tecnici del massaggio, ci impegniamo ad offrire delle cure personificate e ad applicare delle tecniche studiate in un ambiente pulito e confortevole, assicurando così il benessere del paziente. Di conseguenza , in seno a questa professione queste regole devono essere rispettate: 


• Mantenere una presentazione e un comportamento professionale, mantenendo una buona igiene e vestendosi in modo adatto durante il lavoro. 


• Rispettare tutti i pazienti, qualsiasi sia la loro età, sesso, razza, origine, appartenenza livello sociale ed opinione pubblica, stato di salute ed abitudini professionali. 


• Rispettare il paziente essendo presenti, ascoltando e rispettando il segreto professionale. 


• Non divulgare informazioni concernenti il cliente senza il suo accordo. 


• Offrire un quadro sano, confortevole ed utilizzare prodotti di qualità. 


• Non praticare che i metodi per i quali si è qualificati e di cui si è capaci fisicamente ed emozionalmente. Dirigere il paziente verso lo specialista qualificato quando il caso del paziente in questione non è di propria competenza. 


• Adattare il massaggio ai bisogni individuali di ogni paziente. 


• Chiedere il giusto prezzo per i propri servizi. 


• Tenere aggiornate le cartelle dei propri pazienti, consultandole prima di ogni terapia. 


• Fornire al paziente delle informazioni per migliorare la sua salute (libri, esercizi, ecc.). 


• Affiggere chiaramente le proprie condizioni di pagamento. 


• Mantenersi informati sulle tecniche, leggendo e ricevendo regolarmente informazioni , partecipare a corsi di specializzazione, stage, seminari di riqualifica professionale, almeno una volta l‘anno 


• Essere membro di almeno un‘associazione professionale. 


• Sensibilizzare i pazienti sul massaggio ed i suoi benefici attraverso presentazioni, 
seminari o articoli. 


* L’Albo Professionale dell’Ordine dei Massaggiatori, allo scopo di far conoscere la vera natura dell’arte del massaggio professionale, medico e non, propose questa pubblicazione sul codice di etica professionale che apparve sulla “rivista di Lugano”nel Settembre del 1997, specificando che ogni massaggiatore dovrebbe scrupolosamente attenersi a tale codice, ed ogni persona che si rivolge presso una clinica, uno studio privato, o ad un centro sportivo dovrebbe godere con pieno diritto del risultato dell’applicazione del sopraccitato “ Codice di Etica Professionale” del massaggiatore.
